23-June-2011 – EBay Classifieds Group today announces its expansion into Latin America with the acquisition of alaMaula, an online classifieds site with a presence across all major markets in Central and South America. The addition of alaMaula provides EBay Classifieds Group with a fast and effective entry point into Latin America, with an existing and well-recognised local brand.

Launched in February 2010 and based in Cordoba, Argentina, alaMaula ( www.alamaula.com and its sister sites) further strengthens EBay Classifieds Group’s world-leading portfolio of local online classified sites including BilBasen, dba.dk, EBay Classifieds (EBay Anuncios, EBay Annunci, EBay Kleinanzeigen), Gumtree, Kijiji, Marktplaats, Mobile.de and Rent.com. The group, which focuses on offering a tailored, local experience on its online classifieds sites, now has a presence in more than 25 countries and 1,000 cities.

“AlaMaula is a promising start-up with a fantastic local team whom we are excited to welcome into the EBay Global Classifieds portfolio,” said Pat Kolek, Vice President of Finance and Operations for EBay Classifieds Group. “There is significant untapped potential for online commerce in Latin America and we’re confident by applying the collective experience within our portfolio we can build our next success story.”

Kolek, who led the acquisition, continued, “AlaMaula is already showing impressive organic traffic levels, with over 5 million visits per month. We plan to invest in the continued growth of AlaMaula and are committed to providing the leading classifieds platform for consumers across Latin America – helping them to connect locally.”

AlaMaula’s General Manager, Diego Noriega , said: “We see this as an invaluable opportunity to take our business to the next level and the whole team is really looking forward to becoming part of the eBay Classifieds Group network and benefitting from their expertise in the classifieds market.”

Noriega will head EBay Classifieds Group’s business in Latin America, working closely with the global EBay Classifieds group teams to integrate AlaMaula into the portfolio. EBay Classifieds Group plans to use its experience in building online communities around the world to increase traffic to the site and will focus on key Spanish and Portuguese markets.

EBay Classifieds Group held a press event today in Buenos Aires at 11 a.m. to discuss this announcement.
