Toronto Star today (April 14, 2008) announced three new vertical web sites: YourHome.ca, HealthZone.ca and ParentCentral.ca. Published on the company’s TOPS architecture, the sites combine data from Torstar’s Toronto.com and LiveDeal.ca with editorial from the newspaper’s writers and elsewhere. The launches follow a more ground-breaking launch this winter, Faceoff.com, an all-about-hockey site that represents Torstar’s first partnership with arch-competitor CanWest Global, publisher of The National Post & 11 major dailies across Canada. Perhaps The Star will have better success with the new verticals than the hockey partnership, which — despite major in-paper promotion — we hear has minuscule traffic compared to hockey fan favorites TSN.ca, NHL.com and TheHockeyNews.com.
