Sony sells 300,000 eBook readers
The Kindle may be the king of the eBook hill, but Sony’s not doing so bad. The Wall Street Journal notes that Sony has sold 300,000 of its Reader device and 3 million books since launching in October 2006. (By comparison, Apple’s iPod shipped 1.3 million units in its first two years.)
The Amazon Kindle is also doing better than expected. Forrester Research says that 400,000 Kindles have been sold in the last year. CNN puts it at 250,000 units which would have the Kindle slightly behind Sony.
Kindle has received more of the e-buzz because of its Internet connection that allows users to download newspapers and blogs and not just books. Sony says it’s working on a version with the same technology. Meanwhile, it’s launched a touch-screen version with a built in light.
