Cincinnati Enquirer cutting days running classifieds
The Cincinnati Enquirer is cutting the number of days it runs classified ads. The news was detailed in a front-page letter to readers by Enquirer publisher Margaret Buchanan. Traditional classified advertising will be eliminated on Mondays and Tuesdays. The goal: to use less newsprint and ink, the paper’s second-largest expense. Buchanan cited the difficult economic conditions.
Other changes: the paper will switch to a narrower page-format and will condense some of its sections.
The format changes come on the heels of December job cuts at the Cincinnati Enquirer, as well as across other newspapers owned by parent Gannett Co. Prior to the December layoff, 60 Enquirer employees left the paper as part of a voluntary severance plan announced.
Gannett has said it expects revenue to fall 8 percent from 2007.
