Boston Globe dropping print classifieds Mon and Thurs
The Boston Globe is dropping its stand-alone print classified section Monday through Thursday. The news was announced in a note to readers on the publication’s front page.
A classified section will still appear in the paper on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and local classifieds may also be found in the Thursday regional sections. Of course, classified ads will remain 24/7 online.
The Globe is following a trend that is spreading quickly. We reported yesterday about the Cincinnati Enquirer, which is cutting dropping print classifieds on Mondays and Tuesdays, and on the News Herald in Port Clinton, Ohio, which is eliminating print classifieds on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The Chicago Tribune made a similar move last year when it cut its recruitment advertising to just two days a week in print.
