Top 20 social media sites: Blogger, Facebook on top

ComScore has published traffic stats on sites it puts into the “social media” bucket. These include blogs as well as more pure play social networks like Facebook.

Blogging platform Blogger is still on top with some 222 million unique worldwide visitors (the study refers to November 2008). That’s up 44 percent from the year before.

But Facebook may soon overtake it – the service already has 200 million unique visitors (up 116 percent from November 2007). Note that Facebook itself only reports 140 million active users. Still, it’s in keeping with the general trend away from blogging and towards short form content formats (status updates and Twitter tweets).

MySpace comes in third with 126 million uniques while WordPress is a close fourth and gaining with 114 million (up 68 percent).
