National Post adds Scanlife bar codes

Canwest’s National Post has started printing “Scanlife 2D bar codes” that enable mobile phone users to scan and connect with content, in partnership with NYC-based Scanbuy. An instructional video explains that all you have to do is obtain a print copy of the newspaper, download the mobile application (“standard data rates apply”), use your mobile to take a picture of the bar code on the page and, presto, you can read a mobile version of the paper you’re already holding. Hmmm. We’re sure there will be more useful applications, as described in this story, but for some of us digital pioneers, it’s reminiscent of the Cue Cat. Anyone outside Belo still remember it?
