Wall Street Journal to charge for mobile access

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch just announced his media group’s intent to charge for mobile access to The Wall Street Journal news content in one or two months. Reuters was at the Goldman Sachs Conference in New York when Murdoch said that WSJ non-subscribers would pay $2 a week for mobile access, while online-only subscribers would pay $1 a week. Those who subscribed to both print and online WSJ versions would be able to access mobile for no additional charge.

Murdoch claimed a much-improved advertising picture for News Corp., and shared other monetization options under consideration, such as subscriptions and pay-per-view for Hulu. The popular online video destination was founded by News Corp and NBC Universal.
