Three Ideas Worth Millions
Forbes magazine recently published its “10 Ideas Worth Millions” – companies whose ideas were good enough for venture capitalists to pour millions into. Forbes describes these companies: “Even with venture funding falling off a cliff, a handful of companies with great ideas, money-saving products or ideas just too great (or cheap) not to fund can attract enough loot to keep their doors open and their servers warm.”
Three are media products worth a look:
Dizzywood – Its recent funding was $1 million. This is a virtual world for kids, with animals, sprites and an evil emperor. No fees or advertising as yet. This is not the only child-focused virtual world worth a gander, however. We’re fond of MinyanLand, created by Minyanville Media. The Council of Economic Education is helping MinyanLand deliver educational financial information to children in a safe and fun environment.
Verve Wireless - Verve Received $3 million in venture funding this year. It has 4000 newspaper clients already, providing them the technology to take their content onto smart phones. The Associated Press is a Verve investor.
IList – $1.5 million in funding came to this classified site this year. With IList consumers can post and search classified ads at no charge via their mobile device. You can also post them to Twitter, on Facebook and via Gmail. The site is not monetized as yet.
