Blogging for dollars with Amazon, Google Blogger – UPDATE
If your multimedia products include blogs, or if you’d like to offer blogs, using Google Blogger as your blog platform can now ease the monetization process.
Amazon Services LLC, part of the Amazon.com, Inc. group of companies and Google Inc. just announced Amazon Associates for Blogger, a direct integration between Amazon Associates, Amazon’s self-service advertising program, and Blogger, Google’s blog platform. This new collaboration enables bloggers and blog publishers to monetize their content by adding relevant Amazon products to their blog posts without interrupting the blog editing process.
Available immediately , the new tool allows Bloggers to add links and images to their blog posts in just two clicks using the integrated Amazon Product Finder.
All you have to do is highlight the chosen text. Amazon’s new product finder will then search the millions of Amazon products, recommending those with the closest association to the text. You would then insert a link to the product or an image of the product with your Associates ID. You’d then be eligible for up to 15 percent in referral fees from Amazon.
There’s a sidebar option to this program as well. Here you could show dynamic content, thanks to new gadgets such as MP3 clips from the Amazon music store, a search box and a Deals features.
“Making it easy for our Associates to advertise relevant content on their Web sites is the foundation of the Amazon Associates program. Our goal is to help our Associates earn the trust of their followers by giving them the tools to search through the millions of products on Amazon and select those that are most relevant to their audience,” said Dave Cotter, GM of the Amazon Associates Program, in the announcement.
“This is something that Bloggers of all shapes and sizes will benefit from as they look for ways to add compelling content to their blogs and make money,” said Rick Klau, Product Manager, Google Blogger. “Our goal is to do more than simply give our bloggers the easiest tools in the market for creating blogs, it’s to make Blogger the easiest platform for bloggers to make money on. This integration is a testament to that commitment.”
We have a call in to Amazon to ask the details of the affiliate payments. We also want to know whether Google demanded exclusivity, or if this might be marketed to other blog platforms such as WordPress and Ning. Despite the draw of the Google name, the ever-innovative WordPress, we would think, would be a more prominent “catch” for Amazon.
UPDATE: Amazon has declined to disclose any further details.
