UPDATE: Saab may survive, new offers to GM, says AutoNews.com
After Sweden car manufacturer Spyker Cars NV’s prior bid to buy Saab was rejected by General Motors, GM announced the closing of Saab. Stryker went back to the drawing board and came up with a new offer with what they’re confident will have more appeal. Others made offers as well.
Automotive News just reported that the new Spyker offer eliminates the need for a European Investment Bank (EIB) loan approval prior to year end; this paves the way for the deal to be finalized before the deadline GM imposed to close or sell Saab.
“Our efforts are based on our passion for saving an iconic brand that we would be honored to shepherd, and the jobs and livelihoods of thousands of loyal Saab employees, suppliers and dealers around the world,” Spyker CEO Victor Muller told Automotive News. Saab has 218 U.S. dealerships.
GM said it was considering all offers; the Spyker offer is good through Monday, December 21.
UPDATE; Spyker has now extended its deadline indefinitely.
