Bing gaining search share each month, says Hitwise

In the latest Experian Hitwise report on search engine traffic, Bing has increased its share for the third straight month.  Google was up to 70.95 percent of all U.S. searches conducted in the four weeks ending Feb. 27, 2010. Yahoo Search received close to 14 percent, Bing almost hit 10 percent. and Ask.com is now at 2.84 percent. 

Longer search queries continued their increase, with queries of at least five words up 3 percent from January, and those of eight or more words up 4 percent. ,  Queries with four or fewer words decreased 1 percent. The largest query group – those of two words, made up 22.85 percent of all searches.  

Automotive, Business and Finance, Entertainment, News and Media, Shopping and Social Networking categories increased their share of traffic directly from search engines. Google’s percentage of upstream traffic grew for the Automotive, Shopping and Travel categories. Bing saw a 113 percent increase in the Automotive category.
