New, improved Recycler.com goes national
Target Media Partners just announced the relaunch of its Recycler.com, and the site’s expansion U.S.-wide. Recycler.com is the online companion to a 37-year-old print free classified publication. The new national site offers advanced search features, keyword highlights, seller profiles and live user support.
“Our local free-ad model was so successful, we felt it was time to take it national, and to give buyers and sellers across the nation a better alternative to what is currently being offered in the online classified marketplace,” said Pam Johnston, Recycler.com’s COO, in the announcement. “We’ve retained Recycler.com’s local content and feel, while providing users greater flexibility with expanded search options and state-of-the-art technology.”
In what might be a response to all the negativity around Craigslist’s adult services category, Trader Media is emphasizing that Recycler.com will be a safe classified alternative.
“Setting standards and moderating the community to adhere to those standards is very important to us,” said Johnston. “We set out to build a classified experience that reflects today’s user preferences around search and delivers great results for our advertisers. Our new national website easily connects buyers and sellers to the products and services they want and need, whether they are in another state or just around the corner.”
Recycler.com has a monthly audience of 30 million users with over a million new ads posted each month. Collaborations with a dozen other websites and 65 classified magazines make up the Recycler Classified Network.
Target Media Partners was formed in April 1998 with the spin-off of the non-Los Angeles area publications of Recycler Classifieds, concurrent with the acquisition of Recycler Classifieds by The Times Mirror Company (now Tribune Company).
Target Media’s original start-up capital was provided by Times Mirror. In 2000, Target Media bought out Times Mirror’s investment.
