Hyundai-Kia Nov. sales jump 34%; Chrysler’s drops 25%
Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. posted slight U.S. sales gains in November, but Hyundai-Kia made a giant leap forward for the month. Ford’s sales increased 1 percent, Toyota’s 3 percent, Hyundai-Kia’s 34 percent. Subaru sales went up 24 percent, the sixth month that the manufacturer has seen an increase. Honda and GM suffered some, however, with respective decreases of 3 and 2 percent. Chrysler came away the big loser, with a 25 percent monthly drop in sales.
Hyundai credited 200 percent increases in sales of Accent and Elantra for its success, while Subaru predicted it would set a U.S. sales record this year, beating the 200,703 vehicles sold of 2006. In November Subaru increased the number of Legacy sedan’s sold by 83 percent and that of the Outback wagon by 142 percent.
