Grau new Cars.com VP of technology

Kayne Grau has been promoted to VP of technology at Cars.com. He’ll be leading a team of 70 engineers with a budget of $11 million annually.

Grau joined Cars.com as director of development in 2008; last year, he took on responsibility for technical operations and quality assurance last year. Two of the recent technology projects in his department were the launch of a mobile site and an IPhone app for Cars.com, and the company also launched a new “guided navigation system” helping car buyers refine their search results quickly to find good matches.

Before joining Cars.com he worked for Allstate Insurance, CA (Computer Associates), Direct TV, EToys and several other companies in technology positions.

Cars.com links to classic-car site

Just as AutoTrader.com has AutoTraderClassics.com, Cars.com now has a tie-in with a site focusing on classic cars — although AutoTrader owns its own, while Cars.com is just cross-linking with independently owned ClassicCars.com.

The relationship was announced this week. Visitors on Cars.com who are looking to buy or sell a classic car will be linked out to ClassicCars.com, and vice-versa. “Linking between the sites will be seamless and visitors will have an easy way back to their point of entry,” the companies said.

The agreement was announced by ClassicCars, which has about 20,000 cars for sale on its site and estimates that it receives about 400,000 users per month. The company is based in Phoenix, Ariz. Cars.com is a division of Classified Ventures, which also operates Apartments.com and HomeGain.com. It’s owned by Belo, Gannett Co. Inc., The McClatchy Co., Tribune Co. and The Washington Post Co.
