CBS TV affiliate launches auto vertical
Vertical publisher High Gear Media just announced the launch of a new automotive section for Minneapolis, Minn. CBS TV affiliate WCCO. The site and content was developed by High Gear Media.
“We’ve been contemplating an automotive section on our Web site for quite some time,” said Susan Adams Loyd, WCCO TV Vice President and GM, in the announcement. “We found the right partner in High Gear Media. Their robust content will enhance WCCO.com by adding this popular category to our Web site.”
The new automotive vertical includes car reviews and features, car pricing information and shopping tools. It also includes automotive news, video clips and features from High Gear Media’s TheCarConnection.com, MotorAuthority.com, GreenCarReports.com, AllCarsElectric.com and FamilyCarGuide.com
Based in Palo Alto, Calif., High Gear Media’s owned and operated network of automotive destinations reaches well over 2 million visitors monthly. Its content is syndicated to partners including Yahoo Autos, Huffington Post, NASCAR.com and The San Francisco Chronicle.
CBS Eyemobile goes mobile with new iPhone app
Citizen journalism is moving to the iPhone. CBS has announced that its new CBSeyemobile.com site now has a free iPhone app that is available from the iTunes App store for users who want to submit photo and video content.
Eyemobile for iPhone will allow users to upload content from their iPhones as well as to view what others are uploading while on-the-go.
Other TV networks already have citizen journalism sites. CNN has iReport and Fox News is pushing the similarly named UReport. Even the Associated Press has an iPhone app.
Another service, IAMNEWS, calls itself “an open newsroom powered by you” and aims to allow independent journalists to collaborate online. The site is currently by invitation only.
