Trinity Mirror takes full control of Fish4

Trinity Mirror has bought out partner Newsquest to establish total control of the Fish4 network of car, job, careers and property portals.

Fish4 started life as a joint venture between five regional newspaper publishers looking to joint forces in the threat of online classifieds.

The original line up of newspaper publishers (of which Trinity was one) was whittled down as Northcliffe left the partnership in 2007 to launch Jobsite, FindAProperty.com and motors.co.uk. Another, Regional Independent Media was bought by Johnston which in turn decided to use Jobsite as its recruitment platform. The fourth partner, GMG Regional Media, was bought by Trinity and that left only Newsquest. Now Trinity Mirror is the sole owner.

David Black, Trinity Mirror’s Group Director of Digital Publishing comments of the deal that: “Fish4 is an excellent addition to our digital portfolio. The acquisition demonstrates continued progress with our strategy of building a growing digital business of scale, and increasing our share of the online recruitment market.”

To which Paul Halliwell, Managing Director of Trinity Mirror digital recruitment and property adds that: “Fish4 is a strong brand, to which we will add considerable value for advertisers and consumers alike through our digital recruitment and classifieds expertise.”

Fish4Jobs adopts ‘pay per application’ model

In addition to its existing “pay to list” model, U.K.-based Fish4 has now adopted a “pay per application” model for its Fish4Jobs.co.uk recruitment Web site. The new model has already been adapted by the property site Fish4Homes.co.uk. Jobs are posted for free and the clients simply pay for the applications they receive and the amount of response for which they want to pay.

Onrec.com quotes David Hearns, product director at Fish4: “We now have a job advertising solution for all clients irrespective of budget and the number of jobs they need to post. This compliments the new site which we launched in October, offering clients further benefits including new advertising opportunities and sponsored listings, for example.”

, Fish4′s CEO, adds “In this current market we are aware that many clients have to look carefully at their advertising budgets, so we are accommodating this by offering them different packages to suit their individual needs. The pay per application model has been hugely successful for Fish4Homes so it was only natural for us to roll it out to Fish4Jobs. It shows that we understand the difficulties our clients face, and we are offering them a variety of transparent payment options to suit their needs. If you only recruit occasionally and need to keep a tight rein on your budget, then this is the way forward.”
