Online recruitment suffers downturn in France
Despite gains for Europe as a whole of around ten percent year-on-year, France is experiencing a decline in online recruitment, according to the latest monthly reading of the Monster Employment Index. The Monster Index shows online recruitment dropped four percent from Febr. 2011 to Febr. 2012. In January the drop was still only one percent. So, the negative trend seems to be picking up speed. WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, has just announced the winners of the first Asian Digital Media Awards during the second edition of the Digital Media Asia conference in Singapore. More than 50 media companies from 13 countries across Asia participated in this new competition. The winners in the “Best in Online Media – Classifieds” category were:

Dice Q2 earnings up 33 percent
Increased recruitment activity at Dice.com and eFinancialCareers.com led to a 33 percent increase in net income during the second quarter for Dice Holdings Inc., the company reported.
Along with its earnings, the company also announced the launch of a new product, the Dice Talent Network.
Dice Holdings said it earned $3.7 million on revenue of $29.9 million during the quarter, compared with net income of $2.8 million on revenue of $27 million during the second quarter of 2009.
For the first six months of 2010, Dice Holdings earned nearly $7 million, up 5 percent from the first half of last year.
In addition to Dice.com, a recruitment website for technology employers and job-seekers, and eFinancialCareers, a recruitment site for financial careers, Dice Holdings operates ClearanceJobs.com, AllHealthcareJobs.com, WorldWideWorker.com and Dice Career Fairs.
The Dice Talent Network enables companies to build a network of career-minded technology professionals with interest in their companies. Employers can communicate directly via real-time chat or instant message as well as release network-wide announcements about new positions or opportunities. With an enhanced profile, the employer can offer — at their discretion — a more personal and introspective look at the company and its culture to technology professionals.
TheJobPost.co.uk launches
New U.K. employment site TheJobPost.co.uk offers “revolutionary recruitment” through “greater accuracy in the recruitment process.”
Hmmm.
The idea is to connect professional recruiters with employers who are only sent details of candidates who meet their needs. The site is free for employers who nominate what they are prepared to pay consultancies (though a minimum of 15 percent annual pay is specified). The site itself generates revenue by charging between £10 and £75 to recruiters depending on the level of service and exclusivity chosen.
Australian recruitment starting to feel the pinch
Ouch. While Australia might not have been hit as hard as many counties in the economic downturn, the employment market is starting to hurt. That’s reflected in job advertisements for October. The ANZ report shows downturns for both newspapers and the Internet.
Newspaper job ads, measured by ANZ fell by 12 percent on September and are now a whopping 35 percent lower than a year ago. That will be hurting revenues. Internet ads are down by around 5 percent on both September and the previous October.
The largest declines occurred in the mining dependent states where many companies have put on hold thoughts of expansion. However all states recorded falls, demonstrating a general lack of confidence,
Anecdotally, it would appear that it’s the part time and bottom end of the market which are suffering the most – for now. Hospitality and service industries have been hit the hardest. White collar, government and executive positions have not fallen near as fast, That’s about the only good news for newspapers as these ads tend to be larger and more expensive.
In the midst of this gloom there is a small ray of joy. News Ltd’s CareerOne is experiencing an healthy increase in traffic. Its monthly visitation is up some 9 percent on September and more than 40 percent on the previous October. It now receives more than 1.4 million unique visitors a month.
