Spir Communication goes into the red
France; Spir Communication’s share price fell by 4.8 per cent to 26.5 euros yesterday on the news that the owner of car (LaCentrale.fr and Caradisiac.com), generalist (topannonces.fr), and property portals (logic-immo.com) had suffered a net loss of 53.5 million euros in 2011 compared to a profit of 119.7 million euros the previous year.
The losses were mostly associated with the company’s parcel delivery division and the costs of restructuring to focus more on the net.
Earnings before interest and taxes, however, were 13.3 million euros – up over 35 per cent and the company attributed this to “the dynamics of its web sites” as it divests from some of its more traditional media businesses.
Spir launches comparative search of surveying services
In France the Diagnostiqueur Immobilier is a fact of house-buying life; an expert called in as a legal requirement to check anything from the presence of beetle to the absence of asbestos. Now Concept Multimédia, subsidiary of Spir has launched TousLesDiagnostics.com to bring together the details of over 1000 such experts. Nothing earth-shattering about a listing of housing specialists but previously house hunters would have been expected to turn to the Yellow Pages and then shop around for such details. As such the move suggests a further encroachment of online comparison engines into the highly conservative French real estate sector.

Schibsted now full owner of France’s Leboncoin
Schibsted and SPIR Communication has reached an agreement where Schibsted acquires the remaining 50 percent of the shares in LeBoncoin.fr, the market-leading online classifieds site in France, from SPIR, and SPIR acquires Schibsted’s 50 percent stake in Car & Boat Media. Car & Boat Media operates Lacentrale.fr and Caradisiac.fr, which are the market leading automotive sites in France. Continue reading
Spir communication launches online insurance venture.
Spir Communication, owner of leading French classifieds sites including Caradisiac, TopAnnonces.fr and Logic-Immo.com has announced a new venture: an online insurance brokerage looking to sell insurance to the visitors of its listings sites.
The venture is to be run in partnership with existing insurance brokers and the new company, due to launch next year, will be headed up by Arnaud Giraudon, currently president of the board of insurance company Suravenir.
