Another print pub bites the dust: PC Magazine
Another print publication has bit the dust: Ziff Davis’s PC Magazine. The magazine, which was started in 1982, has seen its audience move aggressively online to an entire network of PCMag sites including ExtremeTech, Gearlog, Appscout, Smart Device Central, GoodCleanTech, DL.TV, Cranky Geeks, and PCMagCast, in addition to the flagship PCMag.com.
Once a 400 page book, PC Magazine cut back from bi-weekly to monthly earlier this year. The company has approximately 200 employees; only 7 are expected to go due to the shift to online (with no editorial employees losing their jobs).
Across the entire PCMag network, revenues have grown an average of 42 percent yearly since 2001, says Ziff Davis CEO Jason Young. Revenues are in the “tens and tens of millions” of dollars.
