Las Vegas adds video players to niche sites

With video all the rage, it’s getting harder to stand out with a unique application of media. The Las Vegas Review Journal has found a pretty nifty way. Working with video vendor AdFare, the newspaper has launched a series of video players to each of its twenty industry-specific niche sites.

Small video images appear in a 5x5 grid. Click one and a video plays in a separate section on the page. Since it’s a job site, there are videos for electricians, accounts payable, computer analyst and many more. Under each video is a text description with fax number and e-mail. The videos themselves are comprised of canned footage and unique narration.

The implementation still has some growing pains. Load time for the videos is painfully slow and the videos streams are pretty jerky. Each video thumbnail also moves creating a very busy look.

The Review Journal has a central directory at lvrj.com/jobs and specific niche sites such as LVLawEnforcementJobs, LVNursingJobs, and LVOfficeJobs. The paper is adding another four niche sites in the next month. Employers can choose specific niche sites or have the videos run across the entire network and appear on the main directory page.

The video spots are selling well, says Chelle Bize of the Review Journal: 150 spots in the first 10 days.
