If you enjoy exploring a city from a street-by-street on-the-ground viewpoint, you can now do it in New Zealand.

TradeMe.co.nz, Realestate.co.nz, and Nz.open2view.com have all added Google’s Street View functionality. TradeMe had similar functionality created by Project X, a Wellington company and an in-house team at TradeMe, before switching to Google. 51 percent of TradeMe listings now have Google Maps Street View links. TradeMe’s TravelBug site has also made the switch.

It’s not been an easy road for Realtors. When TradeMe first launched its application two plus years ago, only 18 percent of listings had maps with agents saying they were scared clients would go to see the houses by themselves.

The Google Street View photos were taken by cameras mounted on cars, which took a year to circle New Zealand.
