“The currency of the medieval village was rumor, lies and slander, which is where democracy could return if news-gathering organizations, magazines and book publishers that permit writers to make a living don't quickly find a workable model for generating adequate revenue in the freeloading culture of the blogosphere.”

Those strong words are from Stephen Hume, writing in yesterday’s Vancouver Sun, about the importance of “old media” in an age where the Rocky Mountain News has ceased publication after 150 years…with more papers waiting on death row.

Hume makes some pithy points and his article is well worth a read. You can find it here.
