Wasting time on social networking? Find out how you’re doing
Do you spend too much time on social networking sites? Feel like you’re wasting a good part of your day updating your status? An irreverent and hilarious new Web site will tell you just how bad you’re doing.
Specifically for Twitter, it’s called TweetWasters and it has one simple purpose: to calculate how much time you spend on Twitter and then present you with a cynical comment on how non-existent your social life must be.
The service looks at how many "tweets" (Twitter messages) you’ve posted, broadly estimates that you spend 30 seconds composing each, adds it all up, and spits out the total number of hours you’ve "wasted" on Twitter.
I entered a couple of my Twitter friends into TweetWasters. One had spent 15 hours to date on Twitter. Another a whopping 2.38 days, to which TweetWasters proclaimed “Good grief. What? Are you psychically connected to Twitter?”
Om Malik, who heads up the popular GigaOm network of blogs and posts every new article to Twitter has spent 2.55 days, to which TweetWaster said “Um, you are aware there is a real world out there right?”
As for me, with only 0.49 hours spent posting to Twitter, I received the rejoinder “My grandmother uses Twitter more than you do.”
I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or a critique…
