HGTV’s real estate search and info portal FrontDoor.com has launched a new City Guides section. The city-focused, online guides contain articles, user reviews of local haunts and hangouts, demographic statistics, interactive maps, photos shared via the Flickr site, and videos produced by TurnHere. The reviews themselves are imported from Yelp.com.

21 city areas are now listed in the City Guides. The company has plans to increase that to 50 by April, said Rich Lacy, vice president and site director for FrontDoor.com.

The City Guides are just “the very first stages of a larger project,” Lacy added, with the long-term goal to provide content down to the neighborhood level in 28,000 city areas.

The first group of city areas included at the City Guides section include: Aspen, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Knoxville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Sonoma, Tampa and Washington, D.C.

Other real estate sites include local information, but it’s mainly top down from the site. FrontDoor.com’s approach focuses on consumer reviews.

Plans also include widgets to allow users to export content to external social networks.
