Classified advertising across newspapers in Australia’s Fairfax Media chain fell in December as much as 62 percent from the year before, according to a report by financial group Goldman Sachs JBWere.

Worst hit was The Australian Financial Review’s real estate ads. AFR also saw a drop of 54 percent in its employment classified.

The Age also did poorly – automotive classifieds were down 62 percent, real estate was off 48 percent. The Sydney Morning Herald did the “best” with a drop of only 35 percent in real estate classified advertising in December.
