Weblocal.ca, a new local business directory, has launched across Canada. We took a quick spin and found it pretty nifty. The site is kind of a mix of an Angie’s List with local businesses reviewed and rated by customers, and social networking with users able to upload their own pictures and videos of a business.

Users can create memberships which list all of the establishments they’ve commented on. Members can private message each other too.

Weblocal.ca is owned by Transcontinental Media, the fourth largest print media group in Canada with 12 dailies and 125 weekly titles. It was created as a joint venture with YellowBot, a U.S.-based local search company, which built the technology behind the scenes.
