Axel Springer sheds minority stakes in newspapers

Axel Springer Verlag, Germany's biggest media group, sold its minority shareholdings in a number of German regional newspapers to the Hanover-based publishing group Madsack for €310 million (U.S.$396 million), making Madsack the leading regional newspaper publisher in northern Germany.

For that amount, Madsack acquired Springer's 50 percent stake in Leipziger Volkszeitung, 49 percen
