Print and online news ops in San Diego sold

The San Diego Union-Tribune and its standout Web site have been sold to a private equity firm that specializes in helping distressed companies. The sale to Platinum Equity ends 80 years of ownership of the paper by the Copley family.

Neither side would reveal the sale price, but a person briefed on the deal
