In a move to spur revenue, Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad will focus more on online sales of DVDs and books.
In addition to boosting the existing Web shop, NRC also looks at setting up new online and offline retail concepts separate from the NRC-brand in cooperation with retail partners. The newspaper will be used as an advertising platform.
In the long run, NRC could gain direct financial benefit from, for example, car sales or insurance policies. For now, NRC hopes to counter balance the structural decline of advertising revenues. A special retail taskforce of four has been appointed for that pursuit.
