Homegate.ch, the leading Swiss real estate portal effectively owned by Swiss publisher Tamedia after the take-over of Edipresse earlier this month, launched an interactive online magazine focused on homeownership, interior design, home-building, renovation and gardening. 

The separate portal can be reached from a prominent link on the home page of Homegate.ch and vice versa. 

Apart from “interesting articles on real estate, interior design, house and garden, the magazine also enables users to interact, ie. respond to articles, or rate their own neighborhood on a scale of one to five stars”, Homegate said.  

With this step Homegate follows the example set by German real estate portals, such as Immobilienscout24.de, which has gradually built out their online offer over the last few years to include a real estate news portal, tips and advice, services and a community portal. 

The Homegate magazine is published in German, French, Italian and English. 

What moved Homegate to add such an expensive service to their real estate portal? Firstly, a survey conducted at the end of last year, which pointed clearly to a need among users for information around buying, selling, insuring, renovating and building homes and gardens. Secondly, a strong rise in page views over a short period with editorial content on Homegate.ch.

“With 3.2 million unique users visiting our portal every month (according to Wemf Net-Audit, January 2009), there is a huge potential to grow page views with editorial content,” the company said.

Early in March Tamedia took a 49.9 percent stake in Edipresse’s Swiss business, as a first step of a 3-step deal to be completed early in 2013 with the complete take-over and merger of Edipresse’s Swiss business with Tamedia’s. Until this move, Tamedia and Edipresse each held 45% in Homegate.ch and Swiss bank Zürcher Kantonalbank held the remaining 10%.
