Will Monster.com move from its funky digs in suburban Boston, in a converted mill, to the city of Boston? The Boston Herald reports that the recruitment company has been looking at space in either Boston or adjacent Cambridge, Mass., a high-tech hub that’s home to both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Herald says Monster is looking at 150,000 square feet in Boston, and also may be close to a lease on 20,000 square feet in Cambridge. (There’s surely a big difference between 150,000 and 20,000 square feet, no? Or would it use both spaces?) But the report also raises doubts that Monster.com will move at all, quoting one broker as saying, “The more likely scenario is that Monster is hoping to use it as leverage to negotiate a lower rent with their Maynard (Mass.) landlord.”

At one time, Monster Worldwide owned the relocation site MonsterMoving.com. But it was sold to Move Inc.. Perhaps the name was prophetic?
