Noida-Uttar Pradesh-based Info Edge (India) Ltd, owner of job portal Naukri.com, matrimonial portal Jeevansathi.com and real estate portal 99acres.com, said net profit for the first quarter ended June 30 went up by 2.5 percent over the year-ago period.

The company reported a net profit of Rs 133.05 million ($2.76 million) compared with Rs 129.73 million for the corresponding quarter in fiscal 2009. Info Edge recorded a total income of Rs 619.37 million compared with Rs 671.44 million in the corresponding quarter last year.

Commenting on the results, Ambarish Raghuvanshi, CFO and director of Info Edge (India), said, “Results reflect the weakness in the main recruiting segment in line with macro-economic trends. The silver lining is that hiring is close to bottoming out and the competitive position has improved. We continue to invest in product, technology and analytics.”

EBITDA (earnings before income, taxes, depreciation and amortization) increased by 5.6 percent at Rs 219.12 million as compared with the corresponding quarter in fiscal 2009. Both Jeevansathi.com and 99acres.com businesses continue to be in an investment mode but losses in these two businesses have reduced considerably during the quarter.

Other verticals apart from Naukri.com (including 99acres.com, Jeevansathi.com) incurred a loss of Rs 44.19 million as compared with Rs.76.21 million at the EBITDA level for the same quarter last year.

Jeevansathi.com clocked a growth in revenues at 26.8 percent.

Total expenses including interest and depreciation increased by Rs 63.09 million as compared with the year-ago period.
