Media General reports third quarter earnings

Media General Inc. has reported a net loss for Q309 of $62.5 million, compared with $6.1 million net income one year ago. Total operating costs decreased 18 percent from Q308, primarily because of a 17 percent decrease in compensation expense due to a reduction of 770 full time equivalent employees, and 54 percent decline in the cost of newsprint.
