Despite regular announcements of double-dip fears the Reed Job Index from leading recruiter is showing stronger than expected growth notably across construction, property, transport, and logistics. Over half of the country’s employment sectors are showing growth with transport and logistics expanding at 20 and 16 per cent respectively and an overall year on year growth of 14 per cent.

Martin Warnes, managing director at, emphasises that monthly growth figures at the quietest time of the year bode well for the recruitment sector: “August is traditionally one of the quietest times of the year for recruitment so it is highly encouraging that opportunities have continued to grow. Our data has been pointing towards an improving jobs market for many months now. These latest figures add further weight to the argument that jobs growth has actually been embedded for some time.”
