In Finland, Sanoma’s auto site launched a Facebook Messenger chatbot that serves as a personal assistant to people searching for cars on the site.

The bot (here in Finnish only) can understand the user’s search commands, such as car make, model, year, mileage and price. Then, it can provide the user with pictorial search results of the ten best-suited listings directly in the chat window.

As Facebook Messenger is one of the top messaging apps in Finland, the site now can offer its customers a user-friendly way to look for new autos in the places where users usually spend their time. And to be where Autotie’s users are most often, was the reason for creating the bot, said Eero Laitila, product owner of, in the news release announcing the bot.

He also told us the bot has so far served almost 500 unique users, and their average conversation duration was about ten messages per participant. The numbers are not huge yet, but the trend is clear, and we believe it pays to adopt new technologies early, he added.

Autotie was launched in October 2014 by Netwheels, an IT service company owned by Sanoma Media Finland, Finnish Central Organisation for Motor Trades and Repairs (AKL), and several leading auto dealers.

The site has replaced Sanoma’s Oikotie Autot, one of Finland’s most popular auto sites, together with Alma Media’s and Nettix’s
