Niche job boards have traditionally done well, so why not a niche YACLW (“Yet Another Craigslist Wannabe”)? That must have been the thinking behind Patriot List, a new general classified site gunning for veterans and first responders.

Our choice of words is meant to be only slightly ironic: the site launched at the 2017 Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade (SHOT) show. (Although in a double irony, the Patriot List site does not facilitate firearm transactions. Instead it lists a typical mix of classified goods: shoes, shorts and used refrigerators, albeit with the added bonus of ammunition, gun parts and accessories.)

The main differentiation behind Patriot List — which has the patriotic URL of and is available for both Apple and Android devices — is that it is available only to those affiliated with a military branch and requires proof for registration. The site says that makes it safer, although we’re not entirely sure why that’s an issue: if we were meeting a stranger to pick up an item, we’d want to bring a soldier along with us.

Patriot List calls itself a cross between Craigslist and EBay and has a built-in online payment system including the ability to keep funds in escrow until the item has been received.

Patriot List is also targeting the 600,000 military personnel and their families who move every year by creating an easy way to sell items to each other.

The business was started in 2014 by Colin Supko, who was on active duty with Navy SEAL teams before retiring. (He’s now a California-based reservist and a recent Stanford Business school graduate.)

Perhaps the most militarily-unique aspect to the site is the “Patriot List Oath,” which spells out what it expects from community members. Some of the highlights:

I will help to advance and create sustainable and inclusive prosperity for all.

I will understand and uphold, in letter and spirit, the laws and contracts governing my personal conduct and that of my Patriot List Storefront. “My word is my bond”

With my Patriot List Storefront, I will protect the rights of future generations to advance their standard of living and enjoy a healthy planet.

As I remain steadfast and resolute in achieving success for myself and others by remaining true to this entrepreneurial paradigm, I will feel no shame in realizing profit for me nor those who follow me by choosing to assume “risk” in an attempt to realize what we proudly call individual and social prosperity.

This oath I make freely, and upon my honor.
