EBay Australia is strengthening its b-to-b offer.

Businesses in Australia and New Zealand using SAP Ariba to procure industrial products and office supplies, will soon be able make one-off purchases on EBay, when the company rolls out its Spot Buy marketplace down under.

SAP Ariba, a b-to-b procurement marketplace, announced Friday that it has extended its partnership with EBay Business Solutions to include Australia and New Zealand, a deal that will give EBay’s top-rated sellers access to Australia’s largest corporate buyers.

With Spot Buy, procurement managers unable to source a particular item from one of Sap Ariba’s corporate vendors, can now click the ‘spot buy’ button and search EBay listings instead.

Only EBay sellers with a feedback rating of 99 percent or above will appear, however procurers can activate additional sellers as they need.

Sap Ariba Spot Buy’s general manager Tony Alvarez said, Spot Buy makes non-contracted or unplanned purchases — a spare part for plant equipment or a laptop cable, say — easier because it allows all purchases to be checked against the company’s corporate policies, approved, and processed through the Sap Ariba system.

“Spot buys are a huge category of indirect spend that is largely undermanaged, because companies lack effective tools to facilitate the time-sensitive supplier identification, qualification, and bidding involved,” Alvarez said. “Sap Ariba Spot Buy changes all of this.”

Sap Ariba Spot Buy first launched in the U.S. and Europe last year. It has more than one billion listings across 20,000 categories available from EBay sellers, the company said.

In Australia, Sap Ariba’s customers — which include BHP Billiton, Commonwealth Bank, Medibank, Woolworths and Fonterra — will have access to EBay’s 7 million local Business Solutions listings of stationary, office furniture, printing equipment, telephone systems, and so on.

“Corporate buyers can tap into a trusted network of vetted suppliers and create an easy way to find and buy one-off items … and sellers can establish strategic relationships with corporate customers … to grow their business,” Alvarez said.
