Gumtree SA sponsors World Rallycross Championship

04 Jul 2017

Gumtree South Africa has been announced as the title sponsor for the final round of the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX), scheduled to take place between November 10 and 12 in Cape Town.

Under the terms of the agreement, the car race at Killarney International Raceway will be officially named as the Gumtree World RX of South Africa. The EBay-owned company will also be entitled to on-site activation rights, track branding rights and content creation.

The event in Cape Town will be the first time that the FIA World Rallycross Championship stages a round in Africa.

“It is an honor to have Gumtree SA onboard and supporting the first-ever rallycross event to be staged in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Paul Bellamy, World RX’s managing director for IMG. “As a key player in the auto trader sector, Gumtree SA is the perfect fit and we are confident that our global platform can help promote the brand to a wider audience who are both digitally-savvy and passionate about the automotive industry.”

Johan Nel, director and general manager of Gumtree SA, said Gumtree’s auto category is the most popular category by far, drawing close to 1.5 million visitors every month. He added that the motoring community had always been staunch supporters of the site and this event marked Gumtree SA’s commitment to them and to the industry at large.
