StepStone Germany officially launched Company Hub, its updated company profile product, this week. The new features pit it against leading German-region business network Xing.
Company Hub replaces “Unternehmensprofil” (“company profile”) and adds numerous new features, including ratings and commentary from current and past employees, videos, comments from current employees, and information about the application process.
The new profiles also include detailed company information, photos, links to all current job openings, and names of recruiting specialists. For now, creating a Company Hub is free for all organizations that list jobs on StepStone.de.
StepStone is challenging Xing here, whose Employer Branding Profile integrates most of the same features, and is used by 311,000 companies (source: Xing).
The most important element of StepStone’s new Company Hub is the employee rating tool, which it developed in-house and which mirrors Xing’s Kununu and Glassdoor.
Xing was a first-mover in this space in DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). In 2011, it partnered with Austrian employee-rating site Kununu, and began integrating employee ratings into corresponding employer profiles on its site. Xing then acquired Kununu in 2013.
Glassdoor launched in Germany two years ago, and still lags considerably behind Kununu, which claims to have ratings of more than 320,000 companies in DACH. By contrast, Glassdoor lists 16,000 companies in the region.
StepStone’s employee rating feature allows current and former employees to rate a company with up to five stars against five criteria: company culture and colleagues, training and development opportunities, promotion potential, work-life balance, and location and transport connections. They may also add comments, which appear on the site.
In an article Stepstone published on Crosswater Job Guide this week (here in German), the company said it will quality-check ratings and comments submitted via its employee evaluation tool.
“Comments containing empty phrases or untrue claims won’t be disclosed. Both positive and negative evaluations will be taken into account, provided they offer differentiated views of a company,” it said. Kununu also evaluates and eliminate ratings it does not deem appropriate if prompted by the company, according to its site.
Company Hub is part of StepStone’s “Perfect Match” strategy – facilitating winning matches between job candidates and employers. The profiles aim to give job seekers in-depth information on a company’s work culture before they apply, and to give employers the opportunity to sell themselves to prospective applicants, the company said in a blog post (here in German).
