Facebook has opened its jobs functionality to third-party companies. Gaurav Dosi, Facebook project manager for jobs, announced on Thursday that customers of eight classified recruitment platforms can now post jobs from those platforms to Facebook with a simple click of a button.

The launch companies are:

  • ZipRecruiter
  • Workpop
  • Appcast
  • Recruitology
  • Work4
  • JobScore
  • Harri, and
  • Jobcase.

The partnerships are non-exclusive; more may be added.

Most reports covering the Facebook announcement focused on ZipRecruiter, which already allows its users to post to about 100 job boards. While it’s a big deal for ZipRecruiter to add Facebook to that list, for the company’s customers, it’s just another checkbox from the ZipRecruiter employer dashboard. Jobs then become searchable on facebook.com/jobs. Applications received on Facebook are passed back to ZipRecruiter, where employers can manage incoming candidates within the ZipRecruiter interface.

Before the new Facebook program, employers that wanted to take advantage of Facebook’s job-specific functionality – which includes pre-populated job forms and the ability to apply and respond via Facebook Messenger (we wrote about it here) – had to post jobs manually to Facebook. Companies like ZipRecruiter could post jobs to an employer’s personal page, but applicants who clicked would open the ZipRecruiter website in a new tab to apply, bypassing the Facebook interface and its various goodies.

As Facebook takes on the social networking job world – with industry leader LinkedIn clearly in sight – streamlining the process will make Facebook much more of a must-have job destination.

And with 2 billion members, and nearly a billion visiting Facebook business pages every month, Facebook has become a force to be reckoned with across all four classified verticals. Facebook is improving its services in real estate and automotive, and pushing Facebook Marketplace, its buy-sell “stuff” tool.

“Forty percent of U.S. small businesses report that filling jobs was more difficult than they expected, which is challenging when you consider that these small businesses also employ nearly half of the country’s workforce,” Dosi said in a statement. “Facebook’s goal is to take the work out of finding a local job and hiring the right people. This partnership with ZipRecruiter is another way we’re making the process even easier for people and businesses alike.”

JobScore also contacted the AIM Group to tell us its service will also work with Facebook. It’s essentially the same as the ZipRecruiter interface – JobScore customers simply click the “free job distribution to Facebook” option inside any job. Applicants from Facebook are routed back to the employer’s JobScore dashboard.

“It’s hard to understate the importance of Facebook’s entry into the online jobs market,” said Dan Arkind, JobScore CEO. “Facebook provides employers almost unfathomable reach and targeting capabilities. We’re honored to partner with Facebook.”

Arkind spoke to the AIM Group last year on the launch of Facebook’s job functionality. “As long as Facebook makes it easy for our customers to get the jobs in their JobScore account on to Facebook, and redirects people to apply through our system, we think this is great.” 

That’s exactly what Facebook has done.

ZipRecruiter CEO Ian Siegel said Facebook’s decision to partner rather than go it alone shows how fragmented the recruitment industry is today.

“In the U.S., there are over 40,000 job sites, and some historical blue-chip companies in the recruitment space, all fighting for attention,” Siegel told TechCrunch. “So for Facebook to come in and be another job site … well, there is more than one way to do that.”
