Heavy machinery site Tradus launches in Romania

OLX Group, owned by Naspers, launched Tradus.com, its site for heavy vehicles and machinery, in Romania.

The company decided to launch Tradus.com in Romania because of the large popularity of heavy machinery categories on other sites of Naspers in the country, including the general classifieds site OLX.ro and auto vertical Autovit.ro.

According to Catalin Gealapu, global head of sales at Tradus.com, more than two million visits are accumulated each month in those categories, generating more than nine million pageviews for more than 75,000 active listings.

Only in the first nine months of 2017, the heavy industry categories on OLX.ro and Autovit.ro counted more than 250,000 new listings, and more than one million contacts from potential buyers. This is why OLX Group decided to launch Tradus.com in Romania for the first time with a local team, including dedicated sales force, said Gealapu in a report on the news site Profit.ro (here).

OLX Group sees Tradus as a global brand – one which can or may be rolled out globally, much as the OLX brand, over time. At the moment, the site has 430,000 listings from 4,000 dealers and more than 12 million page impressions per month from around the world, Jorre Bonjer, general manager of Tradus.com, told Profit.ro.

Naspers acquired Tradus Group back in 2007 for $1.9 billion U.S.. Initially, Tradus was a marketplace for groceries in India. Between 2015 and 2016 the brand Tradus vanished from Naspers’ classifieds portfolio for a few months. It came back late in 2016 when Tradus.com was launched as a heavy-machinery classified site by the OLX Group.

The site is based in Amsterdam. It has a multi-language interface, which enables potential buyers to search in their native languages and preferred currencies.

In September this year, Tradus.com received 328,630 visits to its desktop and mobile websites, as measured by SimilarWeb.com.
