Meinestadt.de adds voice-activated job search

Meinestadt.de, a German horizontal site owned by media giant Axel Springer, introduced an Alexa skill for job search recently. It’s another sign the site is morphing into a jobs vertical concentrating on blue-collar employment.
The Alexa skill, called Jobbörse (job board), allows searches by job title and location, then reads the results if requested. In the news release announcing the feature (in German), the site said it was the first voice-assisted job search tool in Germany.
Meinestadt.de used to be a traditional horizontal classifieds site with a strong jobs category. Starting around two years ago, Axel Springer opted to shift most of the site’s energy to jobs with a focus on skilled, blue-collar labor.
The site still has categories like events, dating, vacation rentals and real estate, but these are downplayed. Meinestadt.de was subsumed under StepStone Group, Axel Springer’s global job board platform, this year.
In Germany, Meinestadt.de offers a portfolio balance to StepStone.de, the white-collar only job board.
