BuyRentKenya gets new sales manager

ROAM-backed property vertical BuyRentKenya (BRK) has hired James Waweru as its new sales manager.

Waweru (LinkedIn profile), who was previously the head of digital strategy at Ringier’s digital marketing unit in Africa, has about ten years of media, strategy, sales and marketing experience in Kenya.

“James is responsible for sales growth through the effective management of the sales team. He’ll formulate, review and implement plans to penetrate and grow assigned vertical markets,” BuyRentKenya CEO Elizabeth Costabir (LinkedIn profile) told AIM Group.

He’ll also “grow revenue and market share for the property industry”, she added. BRK hopes to become Kenya’s most user-centric property platform and a one-stop authority for all things real estate.

BRK is home to an average of 5,000 property listings. It has enjoyed 14 percent month-on-month growth and 32 percent quarter-on-quarter growth. On the client side, the site has recorded 20 percent monthly growth and 40 percent quarterly growth, according to official stats. Waweru is expected to improve these results. 

While BRK attracted about 200,000 visits last month, Naspers-backed Property24 pulled in 232,000, according to SimilarWeb. The site also competes with Jumia House in Kenya.
