South Korean bilingual social recruiting start-up AroundUs.com has adopted a smart strategy to gather profiles of job-seekers in the arts and media industry. The first 100 applicants will be awarded up to $1,000 U.S. worth of cyber-currencies for in-app purchases, according to The Investor

Seoul-based Around Us Inc. launched its jobs site in May last year. The English version went live two months later.

Much like Japanese Wantedly, AroundUs connects freelancers, non-regular workers, and regular employees to employers by facilitating empathy-building on the interactive platform.

The campaign will run until April. Employers will also be incentivized at the end of online auditions, based on criteria like recruitment evaluation.

“We got the idea of online auditions as we were preparing for our English service targeting the United States,” AroundUs CEO Kim Sung-jin (LinkedIn profile) said. “Public auditions are more common in the U.S., and we are planning to adopt the same process for the English version of the website.”

Job Korea Corp.Incruit.comWanted.co.kr, and KreditJob.com are some other major job sites in Korea. Another recently-introduced one is ScoutChain.io. The site leverages blockchain technology to connect job-seekers and cut out middlemen.
