Mercari Inc., the operator of flea market app Mercari, is collaborating with CarTune. The latter’s listings will now automatically be added to the marketplace. The agreement will also allow both companies to monitor transaction history.

CarTune operates a simple notification system app that allows users to trade across 120 categories of auto spare parts. Mercari bought its parent Michael in a share exchange deal in October.

This collaboration means CarTune’s listings will be shared with Mercari’s 11 million monthly users who’ll also be able to evaluate a seller’s past transactions.

Tokyo-based Mercari was founded in 2013. It has more than 1,000 employees in Japan and more than 200 workers on its payroll in the U.S.  It entered the U.S. market in 2014. The company has decided to close it’s European operations and London office. The shutdown is expected to conclude by June 2020.

The peer-to-peer marketplace made an outstanding debut on the Tokyo Stock Exchange with a $1.2 billion U.S. initial public offering in June last year. It has been downloaded around 70 million times in Japan where its main competitors are Jmty.jpYahoo Auctions, and Rakuma.

After taking Michael onboard, it may challenge auto sites like Yahoo Japan’s CarViewRecruit Holdings’ CarSensor.net, and Proto Corporation’s Goo-Net.
