Sushil Kumar, who was the chief revenue and strategy officer at OLX India, has taken over as the new general manager.
The Naspers-owned horizontal elevated Sushil Kumar (LinkedIn profile) as the General Manager of OLX India in October, 2018, pending an official announcement. In a latest press release, however, OLX Group announced Kumar’s appointment along with a statement from OLX Markets CEO Tim Hilpert (LinkedIn profile), reports afaqs! news bureau.
According to Hilpert, OLX Group has gone through exciting changes after shifting focus on India as a strategic growth market. Commenting on Kumar’s appointment, Hilpert said, “The knowledge, experience and passion that Sushil brings to the company further strengthens our vision to deliver differentiated value to our customers. Sushil’s strong vision to lead OLX Group to the path of success will be instrumental for the growth of the organisation in the coming few years and I am thrilled to have him take over this mantle.”
Sushil Kumar, on the other hand, said that he is extremely enthused to drive OLX Group’s business in India, which, along with the U.S., is the top two high-growth markets for the company. “OLX is committed to bring progressive transformation by touching the lives of billions of people worldwide and our employees exuberate the same level of passion while we progress on our mission to continue leading the classifieds industry in India,” Kumar added.
Kumar joined OLX India in 2014 as the Business Intelligence Head and Senior Data Scientist, helped build data culture and focus on the right performance indicator, before moving up to Director of Analytics and Strategy. After two fruitful years, he was appointed as the Chief Revenue and Strategy Officer, where he was integral in key business decisions like setting up of Cash My Car and acquisition of Aasaanjobs, among others.
Sushil Kumar is an alumni of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, India, and holds a Doctorate in Computational Fluid Mechanics from UPC, Barcelona. He worked as a Scientist for Essex Lake Group and CEMEF, France, for a combined three years before joining the OLX Group.
OLX India was in the news recently after declaring its plans of doubling the sales team in 2019 to support operational expansion. The expansion is likely to bring at least 25 new Indian cities under its operational purview.
