CarGurus, the most visited automotive site in the US, has hired Spencer Scott as senior vice president of advertising and digital marketing solutions.
Formerly the leader of Publisher’s Clearing House’s revenue and media business, Scott (LinkedIn profile) will oversee Boston-based CarGurus’ global advertising business. He’ll also oversee its strategy in creating digital marketing products for dealerships.
Before Publishers Clearing House, Scott was the chief revenue officer at mobile-marketing company Fiksu, also of Boston.
“Spencer not only brings deep media and advertising technology experience but also has a proven track record of leading revenue expansion at high-growth digital marketing companies,” COO and president Sam Zales said.
CarGurus posted year-end revenue of $454.1 million in 2018 — a 43 percent jump over 2017. With a full-year net income of $65.2 million, 2018 marked the company’s third straight year of positive financial results.
Though CarGurus is huge in the U.S., it faces tougher competition in Europe where monthly visits to its U.K. site lag behind those of top automotive vertical Autotrader.co.uk. The auto vertical’s 2018 acquisition of Pistonheads marked a step up in that competition.
