Japanese gig economy firm Lancers Inc. has tied up with an online education portal ZeroToOne to create a guild of 200 artificial intelligence engineers.

Lancers has been operating its leading gig marketplace at Lancers.jp since 2008. It also operates an IT-focused freelance matching service called LancersAgent, a recruitment bulletin at Paraft.jp and a free education portal for freelancers at Freelance-Basics.jp. The company entered into a joint venture agreement with Persol Holdings to launch an on-demand jobs-matching business in November.

Lancers has a freelance talent pool of 20,000 professionals with qualifications in machine and deep learning. The idea is to foster these talents as demand for them increases.

The crowdsourcing business faces direct competition from CrowdWorks.jpPro-Freelancer.comFreelance.Levtech.jp, and A-Star.co.jp.
