Ringier One Africa Media (Roam) has appointed top regional technology executive Steve Amara as CEO of its operations in Senegal.

Steve Amara

Amara (LinkedIn profile) was previously an executive at Afrimalin — a classified group focused on French-Speaking Sub-Saharan Africa. He was the head of product for general classifieds start-up Kerawa.com in Cameroon, helping the company reach monthly traffic of 1 million visits. He then became CEO of Leportail.ci in Côte d’Ivoire where he helped the team grow its revenue four-fold.

In his new role, Amara will be responsible for managing and growing Roam’s businesses in Senegal. These include regional marketplace giant www.Expat-Dakar.com and property market leader www.MaMaison.sn. Expat-Dakar sees more than 300,000 monthly users. MaMaison doubled its growth in clients over the last year through its deep understanding of the market and partnerships with key stakeholders.

Speaking on the appointment, Roam CEO Clemens Weitz expressed his confidence in Amara’s ability.  “Steve brings great industry and regional knowledge that will go a long way,” he said.

Roam operates a group of leading digital classified sites in Sub Saharan Africa. Unified by its mission to connect Africans to opportunities and be Africa’s most user-centric marketplace company, it operates across eight Sub Saharan countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Ghana, and Nigeria.
